Blow Moulding

The Process

A vertically extruded tube called a parison is the starting point of the extrusion blow moulding process. The mould which consists of two parts is closed, under hydraulic pressure and seals the top and bottom of the parison whilst simultaneously inflating with air at 4 to 10 bar. The material is pressed to the cold side walls of the mould and freezes off/solidifies. The mould then opens and the component is removed and trimmed.

Technical parts can be produced with a variety of features such as internal threads, plastic or metal inserts, undercuts and flanges to facilitate post assembly operations.

Techniques include threads (internal and external), steel inserts, moulded-in plastic inserts. Materials featured: HDPE, LDPE, PP and ABS.
